More adjika sauce varieties

While adjika is the name of a traditional Caucasian hot relish usually made of pepper, fenugreek, and garlic, nowadays there are dozens, if not hundreds, of adjika recipes and styles, as this relish has long won its place on our menu, commonly as a ready-made hot sauce that usually goes well with meats.

This week, on the very eve of the Christmas and New Year festivities, we offer new Korolivsky Smak relishes for the festive occasion, having added two varieties to our adjika sauce line. The fiest is our new Gostra z basylikom (Hot with Basil) Adjika Sauce that has a somewhat special, a bit more spicy taste that sets its aside from the regular Hot Adjika variety. Another new offer has the name of Mild Adjika, and as the name suggests, it does not have the hotness usually inherent in adjika, made to suit much more moderate food styles choices while preserving the full range of adjika's vibrant taste.

Yes, December 18, 2017 is the day when Private Enterprise "Viktor and K" in Vlasivka, Ukraine, the producer and exporter of sunflower oil, mayonnaise, ketchup and a range of other foods, indeed turns twenty-five.

Over the years since its establishment in the far-away 1992, the company has succeeded to make a giant leap and evolve from a local producer to a national foods supplier, all thanks to its constant focus on further development, improvement of production and management processes, its balanced marketing policies, and—last but not least—a steadily high level of quality guaranteed for all of its products.

Today, the group of companies lead by Viktor and K operates two powerful full-cycle sunflower crushing sites and several interrelated production facilities covering mayonnaise, tomato products, etc. as well as a series of silo installations in several regions of Central Ukraine, making use of its advanced local infrastructure and convenient transportation routes. But it is not only the domestic food market that we serve: our sunflower oil and mayonnaise are exported commercially on a daily basis to dozens of the world countries.

A worthy milestone to celebrate our 25th anniversary is the ongoing construction of a totally new soybean crushing facility that will cover production of refined soybean oil and a range of related products. The construction works are still underway, moving confidently towards their completion.

The past quarter of a century has been full of hard work, doubt and inspiration, difficulties and achievements in overcoming those, hoping, planning, and seeing the very real results and accomplishments taking shape—it also was 25 years of life. Korolivsky Smak foods recognized Halal

In the middle of July, 2017, the food processing facility associated with the Korolivsky Smak brand and operated by Private Enterprise 'Viktor & K' received Halal Certificates for the whole range of its own food products from the two Halal certification authorities: the Halal Global Ukraine Certification Center and the Alraid Halal Certification and Research Center. Based on the newly received certificates, Korolivsky Smak sunflower oil, mayonnaise and mayonnaise sauces, ketchup, tomato sauces, mustard, roasted sunflower seeds and vinegar are all recognized compliant with the Muslim religious tenets, and therefore are Halal and may be safely and freely consumed by all followers of Islam.

In the Korolivsky Smak online product catalog, each Halal product is marked with a special symbol bearing the word HALAL in both English and Arabic characters.

Handier with handles

Starting from June 14, 2017, the already wide range of package types for Korolivsky Smak mayonnaise becomes even wider to include a new package: a 400 g lidded plastic tray with handles.

Just as the regular tray of the same size, the new one is square-shaped, and now even more convenient thanks to its handles. The new package is available for the following three mayonnaise products: Korolivsky (Royal) 67%, Vesniany (Springtime) 40%, and Lagidny (Tender) 30%.

Soon, the new mayonnaise package will become available in retail, and we invite our buyers to come and check out the handiness of the new tray for themselves.

School students from Poltava came to visit

Yesterday, a group of eight-grade high school students from the nearby city of Poltava came to visit the Korolivsky Smak (Viktor & K) production facility here in Vlasivka, a well-known producer of quality foods and sunflower oil.

Through this live tour, the students could get their own first-hand experience of getting acquainted with a complex, yet balanced production process at the facility, of which they only might have any idea from the TV or Internet.

The tour of production areas and premises turned out to be very exciting and gave the students much to learn. Besides, each of the schoolchildren received his or her own gift from the Korolivsky Smak brand.

Vlasivchanka: Supporting Women Soccer in Vlasivka

While soccer remains largely a men-only game, everything changes, and today women play soccer, too—and quite successfully : a story of a local women soccer team.

Vlasivchanka is a women soccer team from Vlasivka (Svitlovodsk, Ukraine). With support from Mr. V. Korol and Private Enterprise "Viktor & K," Vlasivchanka has already won a number of prizes in various soccer tournaments in Ukraine since 2015.

Remembering how it was: Earlier this year, in February, our Korolivsky Smak futsal team has won in two futsal contests in a row, the city championship and the City Cup, and proved itself the strongest futsal team around.

Local youth basketball cup won in Kremenchuk

The open youth basketball challenge held by the Kremenchuk Basketball Federation among those born in 2006-2007 for the last three months, starting Jan. 20 and ending Apr. 28, 2017, has just closed. This time-stretched contest brought together 6 teams, four from Kremenchuk,and two from Svitlovodsk, each team having both home and visit games.

It surely came as a good news that one of the two Svitlovodsk teams, called Svitlovodsk-1, has become the winner of the contest, while our other team claimed a bronze. Our sincere greetings to these young Svitlovodsk residents who were able to put up a good show and even return with some rankimg trophies.

And it was pleasant to hear from Mr. Volodymyr Lysak, the teams' coach, the young players' parents, and even from their own selves the words of gratitude to Korolivsky Smak and especially to Mr. Viktor Korol, General Director of the associated private company 'Viktor & K,' for their continuous and active support of the youth basketball arena in this city. Let us celebrate the victory of our young ball players and hope that this first major victory of theirs will pave the road to success in other events that are yet to come.

Pool contest supported by Korolivsky Smak

Late in May, 2016, (23-29.05.2016) an all-Ukrainian pool championship named 'Dynamichna Piramida' (Dynamic Pyramid) has taken place at the Beatok pool club in Kirovograd, supported by Korolivsky Smak™.

In this contest, aspiring pool players competed with each other in several different categories (juniors, youth, and adults) to be recognized as the best in Ukraine and get the honor to represent the country in the World Pool Championship. The contest's winners are: Andrii Tykhyi (Kirovograd, juniors), Vladyslav Yelenych (Mykolaiiv, male youth), and Liubov Zhygailova (Dnipropetrovsk, female youth).

On May 20-22, the VII International Motor Rally for persons with physical disabilities dubbed 'Kashtany Kyivschyny 2016' (Kyiv Chestnut Trees 2016) has taken place in Boyarka and Brovary (Kyiv Region).

Among other participants from Ukraine, Germany, and Poland, an automotive sports club from Svitlovodsk known under the name 'Virazh' (Virage) took part in this contest, supported by Korolivsky Smak. It is our pleasure to mention that our rallyists were among the winners: Yuri Goncharenko and Igor Ivanichev won the first place both in their class and in absolute classification for motor cars with hand-only controls.

Saturday, April 23, 2016, the Polsky Rynok (Polish Market) Square in Kamianets-Podilsky (Khmelnitsky Region, Ukraine) was crowded and busy the whole day long, amid much excitement: it was this square that hosted main events of the quite extensive agenda of festivities on the occasion of the official opening of Tourist Season 2016 "Amazing Kamianets-Podilski: Kamianets RETRO", supported by Korolivsky Smak.

The day turned out action-packed and diverse: in parallel with the Old Kamianets reconstruction, hand-made art sale, various art shows and master classes as well as fun contests and entertainment in the Polsky Rynok Square, the Old Castle received an experimental archeology festival and witnessed the ceremonial opening of the New Western Tower after its reconstruction. The Old Town streets saw a parade of antique cars, and the main square hosted a beautiful dancing performance "Gubernsky Bal" (Governor's Ball).

Besides awarding selected local cafes and restaurants with the "Pryvitne Misto" (Friendly City) honor certificate and announcing the Largest Souvenir Magnet record of Ukraine, the city's mayor announced the "A Week Before Easter" charity act in honor of the Orthodox Easter. Many locals and guests were quick to follow the mayor's fine example who was first to begin loading the Easter basket with food and goodies.

Gulfood 2023 international agro-industrial exhibition

On February 20, a Ukrainian pavilion opened in the city of Dubai (UAE) at  Gulfood 2023 international agro-industrial exhibition. This is a main venue of the representatives of the global food industry and one of the most influential international food exhibitions in the world!

This year, the Ukrainian pavilion at Gulfood exhibition celebrates its anniversary, that is a 10 -year participation in the event.

Viktor & K Private Enterprise honorably represented its brand products such as vegetable oils, mayonnaise and tomato sauces at the national Ukrainian stand  among hundreds of companies from different countries of the world. Successful negotiations were held with trading companies from the USA, Canada, Latin American countries, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Informing the foreign business community about Ukrainian business opportunities and establishing direct business contacts with foreign partners are among the main objectives of the exhibition. And they were successfully achieved.

The excursion at Viktor & K Private Enterprise of King Smak Trade Mark

Young Scouts clubs together with volunteers visited PE Viktor & K of King Smak Trade Mark. It was an interesting and informative experience for everybody who was interested in the food industry and wanted to learn more about food production.

During the excursion the visitors had the opportunity to see how various products were made including oils, mayonnaise, ketchup and other food products. The excursionists were also able to see what technologies were used in the production process and learn more about the quality and safety of the products.

While the excursion at King Smak enterprise practical demonstrations were held which allowed the visitors to see what techniques and tools were used in the production process and even helped to make some products with their own hands.

In addition the excursion included information sessions which enabled the visitors to learn more about the history of the company, its mission and values as well as the basic principles of the production and product quality.

All visitors had the opportunity to see how different areas of the enterprise work and learn about the importance of each of them for the production of the high-quality products.

King Smak Company contributes to the national and patriotic education of the youth

Let us introduce, this is Yehor. This boy lives in Vlasivka, an urban village in Switlovodshchyna. His story was not left indifferent by King Smak Company.

Even at the beginning of the full-scale invasion Yehor together with his friends built a kind of a checkpoint in the town where they inspected drivers and collected supplies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In summer they dug trenches in the wasteland and built a peculiar blindage there.

And everybody who could from Vlasivka helped them with construction materals.

And coming to visit his father who is a military man and in Bahmut direction now, he was presented a military equipment, a form, a helmet, a tactical unloading vest and even kneepads, and was made a rifle imitation. Boy’s mother altered everything and fitted to the size.

Now we can say with confidence that Vlasivka town is in the reliable hands when it is defended by such young guardians who have a kozak blood.

We wish Yehor to stay courageous and selfless, and look forward for his father coming back alive and well from the war.

Maksym Korol: We already process soy and sunflower. Why not process canola?

On June 1, Viktor and K Company announced the launch of its own rapeseed processing plant with an oil storage and a modern silo-type elevator. What motivated the company to have engaged in the rapeseed processing and what is a payback of such a project? What products will be produced and which markets will they be sold to? We spoke with the managing director of Viktor and K Private Enterprise Maksym Korol  who assured us that the project is profitable and on time. But at the same time he drew attention to the fact that almost all soybeans are exported from the country. Now his soybean processing plant is forced to stop because there is no raw material in the country. So, further it will be more about the new plant and the problems of Ukrainian processors.

Latifundist.com: What motivated the company to start rapeseed processing?

Maksym Korol: Ukraine exports 90-95% of its rapeseed harvest and is essentially a raw material appendage of Europe. That's why we went in this direction because we want to change this trend, create new jobs and pay taxes in the country. Because how does it work now? We export raw materials to Europe, they are processed  there, and then Ukraine buys the processed product. We want to create the added value inside the country. We see that this area is marginal. We have a successful experience in processing soybeans and sunflower seeds, so why not try to process rapeseed as well?

Latifundist.com: Did you plan to build the plant before the full-scale invasion?

Maksym Korol: Yes, the project had been planned before the big war began. We calculated the profitability of the production and came to the conclusion that the economy was working. And then after farmers had begun to increase the area under rapeseed, we realised that there should have been no problems with raw materials. And this crop will continue to grow in Ukraine in the future. Agrarians will increasingly turn to oilseeds.

You can see that this year a lot of farmers have switched from grain to oilseeds. The price and logistics make the grain production unprofitable as the road to Constanta takes 40-50% of the cost of the grain.

Latifundist.com: Did you invest your own funds or take out a loan? And how much money are we talking about?

Maksym Korol: We invested both our own funds and the loan that we had taken out before the full-scale invasion. It is difficult for me to indicate the amount of the investment so far because we are implementing several projects at this facility. In particular, we are building a 10 MW thermal power plant. Therefore, it is difficult to divide it.

Latifundist.com: Will this be a plant exclusively for rapeseed processing?

Maksym Korol: No, we will process rapeseed and soybeans. The plant's capacity is 300 thousand tonnes per year.

Latifundist.com: What final product will you produce?

Maksym Korol: These are rapeseed meal and oil. Regarding the oil production, our company is currently one of the largest producers of the deodorised refined sunflower seed oil. Our capacity allows us to produce 700 tonnes of oil per day. We also produce the refined soybean oil. Therefore, it is not difficult for us to refine the rapeseed oil too. We plan to produce the hydrated and refined rapeseed oil.  In addition, it will be packed in bottles.

 Latifundist.com: Will your end consumer be Europe as Ukraine has a more developed culture of the sunflower oil consumption?

Maksym Korol: That's right. Our end consumer is the whole of Europe, the USA and Canada. The rapeseed oil is in demand everywhere in Europe and you will hardly find the sunflower oil in an American supermarket as the canola oil is everywhere. We have already passed the relevant certification and can supply products to these markets.

Latifundist.com: Is it interesting that Canada that is one of the largest canola producers in the world is ready to buy the Ukrainian rapeseed oil even despite the logistics costs?

Maksym Korol: Yes, our Canadian partners are ready to buy our product. If there is  a demand, we will meet it. And it is there today.

Latifundist.com: Will the rapeseed meal also be exported?

Maksym Korol: The domestic market is not yet ready to consume the rapeseed meal so we will also export it to Europe. The products are non-GMO so there will be no problems with sales. Although the oil cannot be GMO, the meal may contain it. However, we have positioned ourselves to buy only GMO-free raw materials.

Latifundist.com: What is the radius of the supply of the raw materials to the processing plant?

Maksym Korol: It is the whole of Ukraine. As the price of the rapeseed is high the supply radius can be 500-700 km or more. We, for example, do not plan to limit ourselves. We have 6 elevators and are building two more. So soon we will have a capacity of 400 thousand tonnes of simultaneous storage. It means we will be able to receive soybeans and rapeseed remotely.

Latifundist.com: Previously, we tried to export all the rapeseed before December, because its storage is, firstly, a very responsible process. Secondly, it was a way to make room for early grains. Shouldn't you have any problems with the plant's supply of raw materials ?

Maksym Korol: Indeed, we had to export the rapeseed until December due to the storage issues. Rapeseed needs to be constantly shifted during storage in the floor warehouses, otherwise it will release oil. But now there are specialised silos with powerful ventilation, airfields, etc. that allow us to store this crop for 8-9 months.

Therefore, the storage issue is no longer a problem today as we can quietly work with rapeseed for 7-9 months and then switch to soybeans.

But there are some problems with the soya supply. We are now forced to shut down our plant because there is almost no raw materials in Ukraine. This is because the government allowed free export of soya beans. If quotas on the export of the sunflower and soya seeds are not introduced next year, the situation will be similar. Processing plants will stand idle.

 Latifundist.com: Agrarians will counter that the prices in Ukraine are already lower than the world market ones and that they may even collapse due to this quota.

Maksym Korol: Why? If we introduce the right quota and objective limits, this will not happen. You do understand that there are a lot of shadow schemes on the market today, right? And it is not always the agrarian who exports. If a farmer wants to export his crops, he needs to ensure that it is fully covered. But if another scheme is used such as to keep it in the country then both the farmer will be able to sell his goods and the processing plants will be provided with raw materials.

And what do we see today? Soybean processors have no raw materials. They are either forced to stand still or process 5-10% of the crop and the season is still 4 months away. And how many workers will need to be sent on unpaid leave? For example, our plant employs 3,000 people. If you count those who supply and maintain the plant, it's 10,000. That's why I say we need to find a "golden mean". We need to have quotas and farmers should be able to sell their goods. And not so that oilseeds are exported abroad through shady schemes.

Latifundist.com: If you compare the margins of  sunflower and rapeseed processing, which is more interesting?

Maksym Korol: The market is unstable now. For example, two months ago  sunflower processing brought us some profit. Now we are breaking even. As to  soybeans processing we are now in the red and a month ago we were in the black. Therefore, margins are changing rapidly and are affected by many factors such as the war and logistics, etc. Although we have calculated the margin of the rapeseed should be almost the same as of the sunflower.

Latifundist.com: Have you got a feeling that this year will be a record harvest of the sunflower? Looking at the State Statistics Service data of spring crops, the forecasted 6 million hectares have not been sown.

Maksym Korol: There will be no record numbers. Maybe we will add 20% to the previous year.

Latifundist.com: What is your forecast concerning the provision of the Ukrainian Oil Extraction Plants with sunflower next season?

Maksym Korol: Unfortunately, there will be a shortage of raw materials. That is why I say that the state should get involved in this problem and introduce quotas. It should bring together agricultural producers and processors at one table and reach some kind of consensus. In 2024 Kernel firm wants to launch a sunflower processing plant in Khmelnytskyi region with a capacity of 1 million tonnes of sunflower. Therefore, we will face a situation where the crushing capacity will be higher than the sunflower production in the country. This is a very acute issue.

 Ukraine's oilseed processing capacity has reached 25.0 million tonnes per year. We can process the entire harvest domestically. In particular, our sunflower seed processing capacity exceeds 19 million tonnes per year. There is a constant shortage of raw materials.

Latifundist.com: Sunflower prices have fallen. What about oil prices? As the agricultural producer thinks, if sunflower prices have fallen, it is primarily beneficial for the processor.

 Maksym Korol: Farmers see only the price of sunflower. And the price of oil? It has halved. Today, sunflower oil costs $700 per tonne, while it used to cost $1.5 thousand per tonne. And the downward trend is continuing.

Soybeans prices are falling on the Chicago Stock Exchange. Why isn’t this oil  counted? Because the agricultural producer wants to sell at 19 thousand UAH, and the price of soybean oil has decreased by $200 over a week. That is why we are forced to finish the remaining soya and shut down the plant. There is not enough soya, farmers have taken it out.

Latifundist.com: I remember how in 2020 Pologivskyi  Oil Extraction Plant imported 20 thousand tonnes of soybeans from Brazil.

Maksym Korol: We may come to such a situation but not this year. The area under soybeans has increased.

Ukraine's soybean processing capacity exceeds 2.5 million tonnes per year. In particular, the capacity of multifunctional enterprises is 2.5 million tonnes per year, and that of specialised enterprises is 2.7 million tonnes per year. Due to the massive export of soybeans from Ukraine, their processing in the country does not exceed 1.5 million tonnes. At the same time, the processed products such as oil and meal  are in demand on the global market.

In the marketing year of 2023/2024 the production of soybeans is forecasted at over 4.1 million tonnes and over 90% of which will be exported. Therefore, if no urgent measures are taken to introduce licensing (quotas), only 1.0 million tonnes will be left for processing.

Latifundist.com: Are there any plans to process other crops?

Maksym Korol: The next project we plan to implement is deep processing of grain crops, namely wheat and corn. The final products of processing will be citric acid, glucose monohydrate, fructose, starch, etc. These are the products that are currently popular on the European markets.

Latifundist.com: Deep processing is also expensive and has a long payback period. Have you already calculated how much such a project will cost?

Maksym Korol: Currently the construction of such a turnkey plant costs about €35 million. As for the payback period, it is not as long as it seems at first glance, it takes 4 or 5 years.

It was a veterans' race in Bystrytsia. There were more than half a thousand representatives from different countries, including Romania, France, Ireland,

the USA and 8 participants from Ukraine.

The national team of Ukraine participated in the 5 km relay and the 21 km half marathon categories and received awards for them.

Volunteers who weave camouflage nets and kikimora for special forces received humanitarian aid from the King Smak Company
The volunteer group "We are a reliable rear for you" has been working since the beginning of 2014.
During the full-scale invasion, more than four hundred nets and almost 300 kikimors were produced and transferred to the front.
The volunteer group includes immigrants from Avdiyivka, Chasovoy Yar, Rubizhny, Nikopol, Energodar, Kharkiv.

NOVELTY American mild Mustard

American mild Mustard

American Mustard is mild, has a soft delicate taste and a warm mustard and honey colour.

It is ideal for adding to hot dogs, sandwiches, country style potatoes and french fries, burgers, barbecue and other meat dishes.

INGREDIENTS:

750-800 g of wheat flour

220 ml of milk 2.5%

25 g of live yeast

1 egg

1 yolk

2 Art. l. sour cream 20%

225 g of sugar + 1 tbsp. l. for opara

10 g of vanilla sugar

1 orange (juice and peel)

100 g butter82.5%

2 Art. l. sunflower oil TM "Royal taste"

25 ml cognac/whiskey/rum

100 g of raisins/candied fruit

200 g of powdered sugar

pinch of salt

decorative sprinkles for decoration

Preparation:

To begin with, prepare a convenient saucepan or bowl.

Next, we prepare the dough:

Crumble live yeast into warm milk (up to 30-35 degrees), mix thoroughly so that there are no lumps. Add 1 tbsp. l. sugar and mix well. Cover with a clean towel or cling film and leave in a warm place for 20 minutes to allow the yeast to work.

After the foam is suitable (increased by two times), add 1 egg and 1 yolk, vanilla sugar, regular sugar, a pinch of salt, softened butter and sour cream to it. Mix everything well with a whisk.

Next, we add orange peel and juice of half an orange to the mixture with steam. Mix everything well with a whisk.

If desired, you can add strong alcohol: cognac, rum or whiskey (25 ml.) - this will give your pastry a special aroma.

Add 750-800 g of flour and mix the dough with a spatula until smooth.

Knead the soft dough for 10 minutes. The dough should not stick to your hands. Shape it into a ball and place it in a large, deep bowl greased with sunflower oil. Cover with a towel and leave in a warm place for 1 hour to rise. The dough should increase in volume by 2-3 times. Wrap the dough and form a ball again. Leave to rise again for 40 minutes for an airy and light paste.

Then fold the dough again and mix in 100 g of raisins (candied).

Do it so that they are not on the surface of the dough, and they do not burn during the preparation of paska. Turn on the oven to heat up to 180 degrees in convection mode.

Fill the paper or metal molds with the dough, but only 2/3 of the volume. If using metal pans, first line the bottom of the pan with parchment, then grease it and the sides of the pan with butter.

Leave the molds in a warm place, covered with a towel, so that the dough fits to the edges of the mold. Bake the pastries in an oven heated to 180 degrees for 20-35 minutes, depending on the size of the forms. Use convection mode or top and bottom heating. Check readiness with a wooden skewer.

Cool the finished pies completely and decorate with orange glaze. To do this, pour 200 g of powdered sugar into a saucepan, add the juice of half an orange and mix well. Apply the resulting sugar mass to the strips and decorate with decorative sprinkles.
